Job Overview
The Primary Teacher for English and Environmental Studies (EVS) for Grades 3-5 is responsible for delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons that cultivate students’ language skills and environmental awareness. This role involves creating a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to explore language and the natural world, fostering skills in communication, critical thinking, and curiosity. The teacher will work closely with the primary school team to support the overall academic growth and holistic development of each student.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction in English
- Design and deliver engaging lessons in English, focusing on reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension skills
- Foster a love of reading through literature, storytelling, and interactive reading activities
- Encourage students’ expressive and receptive language skills through class discussions, presentations, and creative writing exercises
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and support for skill development in language arts.
- Instruction in Environmental Studies (EVS)
- Develop age-appropriate and hands-on EVS lessons, introducing students to basic environmental concepts, natural sciences, and sustainable practices.
- Use activities, projects, and experiments to help students connect with the natural world and understand key concepts such as ecosystems, climate, and biodiversity
- Instil environmental awareness and responsibility in students, encouraging respect for nature and conservation practices.
- Classroom Management
- Create a structured, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where students feel safe and motivated to participate.
- Employ effective classroom management strategies to maintain a productive and respectful atmosphere
- Set clear expectations for behaviour and academic responsibilities, fostering a positive learning culture.
- Assessment and Reporting
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate students' understanding of English and EVS concepts.
- Keep accurate records of student progress, identifying areas for improvement and providing targeted interventions when needed
- Communicate with parents and guardians, offering regular updates on student performance and areas of growth through progress reports and parent-teacher conferences.
- Collaboration with Primary Team
- Work closely with other primary teachers to align curriculum goals, share resources, and plan cross-curricular activities that enrich student learning.
- Participate actively in staff meetings, professional development, and curriculum planning sessions
- Support school-wide initiatives, events, and activities, fostering a collaborative school community.
- Professional Development
- Stay updated on best practices in primary education, language arts, and environmental education
- Seek continuous improvement through workshops, courses, and professional development opportunities
