Job Overview
The Mother Teacher for the Foundation Stage, Floating, is a nurturing and
adaptable educator responsible for providing consistent, compassionate support
across academic and co-scholastic areas for young learners. As a primary
caregiver and educator for students in the foundation years, this role demands a deep understanding of early childhood development, a flexible approach, and
the ability to float across different classes or activities as needed. The Mother Teacher builds strong, foundational relationships with students, helping them feel secure and valued while supporting learning and development across
various subjects.
Key Responsibilities
- Holistic Child Development
- Create a warm, nurturing, and engaging environment for young children, fostering their emotional, social, and intellectual growth.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for students, providing a familiar and caring presence that aids in building a sense of security and belonging.
- Promote positive behavior and social skills, modelling empathy, patience, and respect.
- Academic Instruction & Support
- Deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons across foundational subjects, including literacy, numeracy, and early science, as needed.
- Work collaboratively with lead teachers in various departments to support the foundation curriculum across multiple subjects.
- Adapt teaching techniques to meet the diverse learning needs of young children, using creative and interactive methods to encourage participation and interest.
- Co-Scholastic Engagement
- Support co-scholastic activities, including art, music, physical education, and other extracurricular areas, fostering well-rounded development.
- Encourage students’ creativity and curiosity by guiding them through hands-on, exploratory activities that support physical and cognitive growth.
- Classroom Management
- Establish and maintain a structured yet flexible classroom environment that allows young learners to explore while feeling safe and supported
- Implement positive behaviour management techniques to guide young children and maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning.
- Collaboration with Foundation Stage Team
- Work closely with the foundation stage coordinators, counsellors, and other teachers to provide cohesive support across departments.
- Actively participate in planning sessions and share insights with the team to adapt teaching practices according to student needs and curriculum goals.
- Parental Communication & Reporting
- Act as a liaison between school and parents, providing regular updates on student progress, behaviour, and development.
- Offer insights and feedback during parent-teacher meetings, discussing each child’s unique needs, strengths, and areas for growth.
- Flexibility & Adaptability
- Respond to the diverse needs of the foundation stage, adjusting teaching styles, learning activities, and classroom management approaches across different classes or subjects.
- Provide support during teacher absences, special events, and any instance requiring additional guidance across the foundation stage.
